Snip & Sketch, originally known as Screen Sketch, is a free screenshot tool provided by Microsoft. It has been built into Windows 10 since October 2018. In Windows 11, you can still use this handy tool to take screenshots.

To take screenshots with Snip & Sketch:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key, Shit and S and the same time to launch Snip & Sketch. Your mouse pointer will turn into a cross, and the screen will immediately dim. You’ll see a list of tools on the top of your screen.

[SOLVED] Windows 11 white screen after login

If you’re a Windows users, you may have already been familiar with the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD), but few have run into the White Screen of Death (WSoD). Recently, we’ve seen many Windows 11 users are complaining that their screen turns completed white after login.

Unlike the BSoD, the WSoD doesn’t show any error messages on the screen, and most users who encounters this issue can still use their mouse and keyboard. If you’re experiencing the exact same issue, don’t worry. You’ve come to the right place. After reading this article, you should be able to this issue quickly and easily!

How to fix Windows 11 white screen after login

Here’s a list of fixes that have resolved this issue for other Windows 11 users. You don’t have to try them all. Just work your way down through the list until you find the one that does the trick for you.

  1. Run explorer.exe with administrative privileges
  2. Modify the Shell value in Registry Editor
  3. Uninstall the latest Windows update

Fix 1: Run explorer.exe with administrative privileges

The Windows 11 white screen issue after login may occur if the explorer.exe process is not working properly. Before trying anything more complicated, try running explorer.exe as the administrator and see if this fix works. Here’s how to do it:

  1. On your keyboard, press Ctrl, Shift and Esc at the same time to invoke Task Manager. Then click File > Run new task.

  2. In the Create new task window, type explorer and check the box next to Create this task with administrative privileges. Then Click OK.

Windows 11 will restart the explorer.exe process. Normally, after restarting the explorer.exe process, you would resolve the Windows 11 white screen issue. If this fix doesn’t work, just try the next fix, below.

Fix 2: Modify the Shell value in Registry Editor

If you’re still having the issue, try modifying the Shell value in Registry Editor. Here’s how to do it:

  1. On your keyboard, press Ctrl, Shift and Esc at the same time to invoke Task Manager. Then click File > Run new task.

  2. In the Create new task window, type regedit and check the box next to Create this task with administrative privileges. Then Click OK.

  3. In Registry Editor, go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon, then locate the Shell value on the right.

  4. If you didn’t find the Shell value, just right click your mouse and select New > String Value to create a new one and name it as Shell.
  5. Double click on the Shell value to invoke the Edit String window. Ensure that its Value data is set to explorer.exe. Click OK to save the change.

  6. Restart Windows 11 to see if this issue persists.

Fix 3: Uninstall the latest Windows update

If none of the fixes above works for you, you may need to uninstall the latest Windows update. Normally, after uninstalling the latest Windows update, you should fix this issue.

To uninstall the latest Windows update, follow the steps below:

  1. On your keyboard, press Ctrl, Alt and Del at the same time, then hold the Shift key, click the Power button on the bottom-right corner and select Restart. Windows 11 will boot to Advanced Startup.

  2. Click Troubleshooting to see advanced options.

  3. Go to Advanced options > Uninstall Updates.

  4. Click Uninstall latest quality update. Then Windows 11 will restart.

  5. See if Windows 11 white screen issue after login persists.

If you can see the wallpaper and desktop after login, congrats! You’ve resolved this issue. If you still get a white screen after login, you need to follow the step 1 ~ 3 in fix 3, then click Uninstall latest feature update. Normally, this problem should be resolved after you uninstalled the latest Windows update.

System requirements for Windows 11

These are the basic system requirements for installing Windows 11 on a PC. For more information, please refer to this Microsoft document: Find Windows 11 specs, features, and computer requirements.

Processor:1GHz or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
RAM:4GB
Storage:64GB or larger storage device
System firmware:UEFI, Secure Boot capable
TPM:Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
Graphics card:Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
Display:High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
Internet connection and Microsoft accounts:Windows 11 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft account to complete device setup on first use.
Switching a device out of Windows 11 Home in S mode also requires internet connectivity. Learn more about S mode here.
For all Windows 11 editions, internet access is required to perform updates and to download and take advantage of some features. A Microsoft account is required for some features.

As we can see, there is actually a certain hardware threshold for meeting the system requirements to run Windows 11. The first one is that the processor must support 64-bit, as there is no 32-bit version of Windows 11. Correspondingly, the memory should be at least 4GB and the storage space be more than 64GB.

What’s more, to run Windows 11, the machine must supports UEFI secure boot and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 version, which prevents many people from upgrading Windows 11.

How to upgrade to Windows 11

Once you’ve ensured that your PC meets the system requirements to run Windows 11, you just need to enroll Windows Insider Program to check for Windows 11 updates via OTA. Here is how to do it:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and I at the same time to open the Windows Settings. Go to Updates & Security > Windows Insider Program.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select an account and opt-in your PC to flight Insider Preview build via Settings. Your PC need to be restarted in order to receive the Insider Preview Build for Windows 11.
  3. Once you restarted your PC, go to Windows Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update. Click Check for updates on the right to start checking and downloading the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build.

  4. Once downloaded, just restart Windows to install the latest latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build on your PC. Since this is a huge upgrade, it may take some time for your PC to complete the installation process.

When you see the sign-in screen, congrats! It suggests that the installation process completed.

[SOLVED] How to AirDrop from iPhone to PC

  6. After you selected the files, select the Windows10 device you want to send files to in the Devices section.

If you want to share files from Windows 10 PC to your iPhone, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Launch LANDrop on your Windows PC and iPhone.
  2. On your Windows PC, right-click on the LANDrop icon in the system tray and select Send File(s)….

Sharing between iOS and Android device also becomes much easier, and there are 2 ways to do this. You just need to launch LANDrop, select the files you want to share, then select the device to receive the files, which is similar to the steps for sharing between your iPhone and your Windows 10 device.
